How selasihga came to be
selasihga was founded in Melaka in 2006 by a practitioner who had spent the previous decade working inside trading businesses along the central coast — first as a junior analyst, then in a more senior capacity with a regional logistics firm whose principal trusted him enough to sit in on the conversations that mattered. What he observed, across firm after firm, was that good families with sound businesses often lacked a reliable outside voice.
Not a bank. Not an accountant with an audit to complete. Not a consultant with a framework to sell. Something quieter — someone who had the patience to understand the actual arrangement, the informal agreements, the family dynamics that shaped every formal decision. Someone willing to say plainly what they observed, and then leave the decision to the family.
The practice has remained deliberately small. We take a modest number of engagements at any one time, and we do not grow by adding headcount. The quality of the work depends on the principal's attention remaining undivided, and that is only possible if the firm is not stretched thin.
Over the years the practice has worked with import-export businesses, small hotels, heritage retail operators, spice traders, textile merchants, and several family-owned property firms along the coast. The range is deliberate — the common thread is not the industry but the nature of the challenge: a family business navigating a moment of change, uncertainty, or transition.

What guides our work
Honest observation over comfortable agreement
We tell families what we actually see, including the parts that are uncomfortable to hear. A reading that only confirms existing assumptions is not worth paying for. We aim to be useful, not agreeable.
Discretion as a foundation
Everything shared with us stays with us. We have never published a case study, referenced a past client's name, or discussed the details of any engagement with a third party. This is not policy — it is how a practice of this kind earns and maintains trust.
The family decides
Our role is to offer a well-considered outside view, not to make decisions on behalf of the family. We prepare documents that help the family think clearly. What the family does with that material is entirely their own affair.
Regional roots, not generic frameworks
We do not apply a universal consulting methodology to every engagement. The conditions in Melaka and the central coast — the seasonal patterns, the supplier networks, the particular way family authority works here — inform how we approach each firm.

How we work
Engagement Confidentiality
All information shared during an engagement is held in strict confidence. We do not disclose client details, firm financials, or family matters to any external party.
Written Deliverables
Every engagement produces a clearly written document for the family's use. Drafts are reviewed by the principal before submission and may be refined following a closing conversation.
Principal-Led Work
The founding principal conducts all significant conversations and authors all written assessments. We do not outsource the substance of our work.
Conflict-of-Interest Policy
We do not take engagements from firms that are direct commercial competitors. Where a potential conflict exists, we disclose it before commencing any work.
Clear Engagement Terms
Scope, fees and timelines are agreed in writing before any engagement begins. We do not adjust fees mid-engagement without the family's prior consent.
Data Protection
We handle all personal and business data in accordance with Malaysia's Personal Data Protection Act. Information is stored securely and not retained beyond what the engagement requires.
Advisory work for the long-established firm
The challenge facing many family businesses in Melaka and the surrounding region is not a lack of capability — it is a lack of perspective. Firms that have traded successfully for two or three generations carry deep knowledge of their customers, their suppliers and their local market. What they often lack is a reliable external reference point: someone outside the family who understands the context but is not themselves part of it.
selasihga occupies that position. We are not a large consultancy offering standardised services. We are a small practice, grounded in this region, that understands the particular character of the trading families and heritage businesses that have shaped Melaka's commercial life.
Our advisory work draws on direct observation — conversations with principals and family members, visits to the operations, a careful reading of the supplier and customer arrangements — rather than on secondary analysis or imported frameworks. The deliverables we produce are plain documents, written to be used rather than filed.
Firms that have worked with us over the years have found the engagements most useful at moments of transition: when a new generation is beginning to step into a role, when a long-standing supplier arrangement is under pressure, or when the principal is considering how to structure the firm for the decade ahead. These are not moments for a standardised toolkit. They require careful, patient attention — and that is what we offer.
Would a conversation be useful?
We are happy to speak with principals who are considering whether an engagement might be worth exploring. There is no obligation and no fee for an initial call.
